Who’s silly now?

Believe it or not, it may actually be a boon (to you) … that is if you are a firefighter, police officer or teacher!
Foreclosure crisis has ripple effect
The last sentence reads …
Charlotte is working with the Department of Housing and Urban Development on a program that allows firefighters, police officers and teachers to purchase foreclosed homes at 50% of their listed price.
Chalk up another benefit for our overworked and underpaid public servants! From pensions that allow you to make more money retired than when working to programs that allow you to purchase homes at 50 cents on the dollar, I’m hereby telling anyone who is thinking about entering one of the aforementioned professions above to stop thinking and JUST DO IT!
Why can’t non-bureaucrats who are getting their rear ends handed to them as much as these public “servants” (and maybe more so) be afforded the same program and benefits??? What makes teachers, firefighters and law enforcement more deserving than the programmer, real estate agent or bank teller???
Is what is good for the servants not good enough for those they allegedly serve?
Unbelievable! Honestly, I’m speechless.
How much more of this nonsense is Joe Taxpayer going to put up with? And, is there a principled government official out there willing to take a stand against this outrageous (dare I say criminal) proposal that once again leaves the private citizen in the dust, sucking on exhaust fumes?

Former CNN sr. producer/writer skewers so called “victims” of today’s financial crisis–at least people who should’ve known better & greedily overspent. This piece (& 2 others) attack “victims” featured in recent NY Times. Author isn’t letting off banks;she wants individuals held to account too.
Accountability in America? Where’s this guy been?

The U.S. unexpectedly lost jobs in February for the second consecutive month, adding to evidence the economy is in a recession. Payrolls fell by 63,000, the biggest drop since March 2003, after a decline of 22,000 in January that was larger than initially estimated, the Labor Department said today in Washington.

Homeschoolers’ setback sends shock waves through state
Who should ultimately be responsible for the education of a child? The state or the parents?
For residents in California, the decision has been made and it is the parents who are on the losing end this time (or rather, again). “The Second District Court of Appeal ruled that California law requires parents to send their children to full-time public or private schools or have them taught by credentialed tutors at home.” Or more simply: go to jail or get your teaching credentials so the state can be assured your little one’s will be properly multi-culturally sensitive with an intact self-esteem before they hit college!
“‘A primary purpose of the educational system is to train school children in good citizenship, patriotism and loyalty to the state and the nation as a means of protecting the public welfare,’ the judge wrote, quoting from a 1961 case on a similar issue.”
Good citizenship? Patriotism? Loyalty? This seems to presume such values are not taught in home schools. I’m not sure how equally important American values like a free market economy, civil/personal liberties and the principle of limited government are protected and promoted by such an educational philosophy that in practice does away with competition and parental choice while making government bigger! To think, I always thought the public education system was about ensuring each child would receive at minimum a basic and academically focused education. Huh. I feel a Ron Paul moment coming on here so I better move on.
So who could be happy about this?
Surprise! The Teacher’s union (a.k.a. The California Teachers Association)! And why wouldn’t they? Public education has been getting its proverbial rear-end handed to them with the mass exodus of students from public schools. It’s simple economics: More students = More $$$ from the state … Less students = Less $$$ from the state. Forget about parental rights and what is in the best interest for a child, like almost everything in life, this is about the benjamins baby! And with the CTA being one of the biggest and best financially backed unions in California with enough legal firepower to overwhelm any parent (or parents) regardless of right and wrong … it’s not hard to guess who’s going to win in court.
So tax paying parents beware … your children are now ours! WE will tell you where they will go to school … WE will tell you what they will learn and what values they will hold (or not hold) … and WE will tell you what hoops you will need to jump through if you dare take the responsibility for your own child’s education.
Chalk another one up to big government!
